The US Army is to adopt a new data search and transfer
system to aid soldiers’ performance in the
battlefield.
Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) has been selected by US Army
supplier Boeing to integrate the FAST Enterprise Search Platform
(FAST ESP) into the System-of-Systems Common Operating Environment
(SOSCOE) of the US Army’s Future Combat Systems (FCS).
FAST president Ali Riaz said, “The FCS programme is considered
the foundation for the army’s future and will utilise advanced
communications and technologies to ensure it can overcome any
adversary.”
Under the terms of the multi-year, multi-million-dollar
contract, FAST will provide Boeing with the necessary products and
support to incorporate FAST ESP into the Future Combat Systems
environment to further extend and evolve search capabilities for
the army.
FCS is an army transformation initiative designed to link
soldiers to a wide range of weapons, sensors and information
systems via a mobile network.
The added level of connectivity and visibility will enable
geographically dispersed combat and support units to synchronise
mission-critical operations and improve interoperability, said
FAST.
FAST search capabilities will fit within the service-oriented
architecture (SOA) of SOSCOE to support multiple applications
independently and simultaneously.
