Insurance company Aviva is transferring over 5,000
business process outsourcing (BPO) staff from its Indian service
providers to its own Global Services arm in India.
The move is part of a “build-operate-transfer” project started
in 2003. This saw Aviva use external providers to set up BPO
operations in India, with the option of taking on the staff at a
later date.
The transfer of staff to Aviva is expected to be completed by
early 2008, and covers operations in Bangalore, Pune and Colombo in
Sri Lanka.
Aviva will carry on outsourcing other BPO work to the three
Indian outsourcers, ExlService Holdings, 24/7 Customer and WNS.
The insurer expects to have almost 8,000 staff working on its
behalf in India by the end of next year, including those at Aviva
Global Services and at its outsourcers.
