Retailer Tesco is scooping up two thirds of all online
grocery orders in the UK, research has revealed.
The study of online grocery sales data by analyst comScore
Networks found that Tesco’s online service is handling 30,000
orders a day with an annual value of £2.5m – 66% of all UK internet
grocery orders.
The research, drawn from spending data from two million people
over the first seven months of 2006 found that Tesco’s closest
online rival was Asda, with 16% of all orders, followed by
Sainsbury's on 14%.
Sainsbury’s customers spent most online, with an average bill of
£90, compared with £80 for Tesco and Asda.
