Food processing firm Kepak Group has chosen open source
identity management software to control access to its Europe-wide
network.
Kepak, which processes meat and other foods, selected Sirius
Corporation to deploy an OpenLDAP-based identity management system
on the network that links its 2,000 staff across the UK, Ireland,
France, Spain, Italy and Germany.
The move follows Kepak’s successful deployment of an open
source-based e-mail system, also provided by Sirius, at the food
firm’s offices in Ireland and the UK.
The company is seeking to benefit from a secure, standards-based
platform that is free from licensing charges and secures the firm’s
IT investment from the threat of “lock-in”, where users find
themselves tied to proprietary products.
Kepak’s IT manager, Chris Whelan, said, “Three years ago I
realised that many proprietary networking solutions are just open
source ‘under the hood’. It didn't make sense to spend money on
licensing a product that was essentially free. Sirius Corporation
give us the expertise to deploy enterprise-class open source
technologies with confidence.”
