A new product aims to bring enterprise-class storage to small and medium-sized businesses.

Seagate said its Maxtor Shared Storage II Network Storage and Backup system offers 1Tbyte of capacity and Gigabit Ethernet transfers, allowing users on a network of up to 20 computers to share and back-up their data quickly.

It can be configured to back up files, accounting records, videos, photos and other digital files stored on multiple networked computers automatically, said Seagate. This does away with the need for tapes and other storage media.
