Content management software is outpacing the rest of the
software industry and there’s still plenty of room for growth,
according to research from IDC.
The market for content management grew almost 10% in 2005,
vastly outstripping the software industry as a whole. Four main
players – EMC, FileNet, IBM and Open Text –carve up 37% of the
market between them, and 55% of the market is dominated by 10
firms.
But the world order could change quickly as smaller players
exploit the market for next-generation content applications.
“IDC expects to see growth in content-centric applications that
are built atop the platforms of the leading content management
vendors, or atop the content management and records management
services of Microsoft, IBM and Oracle,” says Melissa Webster,
program product director for content technologies.
