The Department for Transport has announced a £1.2m deal
with Mediasurface to rationalise the infrastructure of its public
websites.
The project will see more than 30 existing websites – including
its flagship road safety and highway code sites – consolidated and
relaunched using Mediasurface’s Morello content management
software.
The consolidation is aimed at saving money – with common
applications, infrastructure services, support facilities and best
practice shared across its sites – and improving the accuracy and
presentation of the DfT’s online information.
The new system will also allow content contributors and editors
to publish information directly to the websites in a controlled
environment, without the need for support from the DfT’s IT
teams.
Neil Campbell, head of e-communications at the DfT said, “We
have a variety of online sites containing thousands of pages of
information which are currently managed by a hugely devolved and
skill-varied staff.
“We have been looking for a way to tie our existing online
strategy together within a single environment but at the same time
give ourselves a good basis from which we can grow in years to
come.”
Mediasurface’s Morello content management system offered “a
strong, proven background, sleek interface and extensive experience
in the UK public sector”, he added.
