Users can now download the public beta 2 release of
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, the next version of the Exchange
e-mail server and Microsoft's new Forefront Security
software.
The e-mail server, due for release in early 2007, offers
improvements to security, remote and mobile access, compliance
management and unified messaging, Microsoft said.
Forefront Security for Exchange Server aims to provide
protection against viruses, worms and spam, and is the first
product available under the recently announced Microsoft Forefront
brand for business security products.
Exchange Server 2007 includes information rights management,
designed to help protect the confidentiality of messages travelling
within the enterprise.
It can also make the most of server consolidation and improved
storage efficiency by taking advantage of the extended memory and
larger caches available on x64 systems.
Microsoft has also worked on what it claims is a more efficient
routing algorithm to enable Exchange Server 2007 to make better use
of bandwidth.
According to Microsoft, Exchange Server 2007 has improved data
replication, which it said would limit the need and frequency for
tape back-up.
