Train operator Great North Eastern Railways has selected
Thus to provide a next generation network linking
its 23 locations across the UK.
THUS will migrate all GNER’s stations and offices along the East
Coast mainline route onto a single point-to-point MPLS
(Multiprotocol Label Switching) network with Private access DSL
(PaDSL) backup.
The inter-city train firm is seeking greater speed, efficiency
and resilience from a new network that will also support full
convergence of voice and data. The network will also carry CCTV
traffic to station staff and support interactive services for
passengers, such as real-time train delay information sent to
mobile phones.
GNER head of procurement David Edwards said, “Thus offered us
the best solution that will enable us to have a faster, more
effective network with high availability and extended bandwidth. We
will soon be able to offer leading services to our staff and
customers with the flexibility to connect our different locations
with ease.”
GNER is also set to introduce Wi-Fi access on all its trains by
August after strong passenger demand on trains that already have
the service provided by Kingston Communications.
