Almost half of IT directors admit that their approach to
purchasing still isn’t strategic enough.
Research from The Bathwick Group and IBM shows little has
changed over the years in the way IT is bought or implemented,
despite IT directors having access to best practice.
Nearly four out of five of the 236 IT directors surveyed believe
that simplifying IT is key to productivity, yet 60% of them admit
they have “ended up” with kit from several different suppliers from
projects over the years.
Harj Murria, infrastructure solutions marketing manager at IBM,
says IT chiefs have got the message about streamlining their
business processes, but they need help.
“[The research] speaks to the great need for the IT industry to
provide adaptable infrastructure solutions that lay the foundation
for efficient business process implementation and new functionality
deployment,” says Murria.
This lack of efficiency is also displayed in the way companies
manage peaks in demand. Only 6% of those surveyed have core systems
that adjust up and down to demand fluctuations and 50% are prepared
to accept a drop in system efficiency.
