Lotus IM platform to integrate with Microsoft apps

IBM has announced that its forthcoming Lotus Sametime 7.5 collaboration platform will be integrated with Microsoft Office, Outlook and SharePoint applications.
Users will be able to use Lotus Sametime features to send instant messages, make calls, share applications or launch web conferences from within Office applications. Lotus Sametime 7.5 will also offer direct connectivity to RIM, Nokia and Windows Mobile devices.
The move fits with IBM’s long-term strategy to build collaborative technologies into desktop computing and tap into increasing interest in instant messaging, internet-based applications and other new ways of working.
Lotus Sametime 7.5 is set to offer voice over IP calls between several users, along with improved application sharing features, fast access to web conferences and an “auto-reconnect” feature to deal with loss of connectivity during a conference.
The new product will also offer free access to public instant messaging networks and integration with leading audio and video providers.
