The Ministry of Defence has awarded BearingPoint a
contract worth up to £5m to complete a data warehousing project,
aimed at improving its forces’ operations.
The management and technology consulting firm will design,
develop and support an enterprise data warehouse specified by the
Ministry of Defence’s Defence Logistics Organisation (DLO).
The project is part of the DLO’s Logistics Information Systems
strategy. The initial contract is valued at over £2m, which could
potentially increase to £5m if all options are exercised.
The DLO requires a structured, accurate and centralised data
repository for logistics management information. The goal of the
project is to create a warehouse of data for all defence logistics
information users.
The DLO enterprise data warehouse will encapsulate information
from many of the current and future logistics systems supporting
both rotary and fixed wing aircraft fleets for the Royal Air Force,
Royal Navy and Army.
It will also have the capability to support land forces and
battleships. In addition, the enterprise data warehouse will have
the capability to merge data from not only the operational domains,
but also from other domains such as finance and human resources,
said the DLO.
The DLO said this will give operational commanders and defence
logistics managers “greater shared situational awareness”.
BearingPoint will provide a design, development and support
service for an initial three-year period.
BearingPoint has previously delivered defence logistics
programmes for the US, German and Australian defence forces.
