Hewlett-Packard network tool aims for end-to-end lifecycle management

Hewlett-Packard has developed a network configuration management system that aims to improve the way users can view and manage their network assets.

HP Openview Network Configuration Manager is expected to be unveiled this summer. Based on technology licensed from network specialist Voyence, HP said the system offer end-to-end network lifecycle management.

It will enable firms to collect configuration data from multi-supplier routers, hubs and switches, and to track changes made to these devices, said HP. The system works by maintaining an up-to-date record of who accesses which devices and includes modelling technology that allows network managers to virtually configure devices in software, before they are deployed.

HP said the tool could be used to discover whether changes made to devices will have a negative impact on the network, for instance. It also provides security, audit and compliance features.

Openview Network Configuration Manager can work as a stand-alone product or can be integrated with other HP Openview tools.
