Seventy five per cent of companies are using or planning
to use service oriented architecture, according to research by
Computer Weekly and integration specialist
InterSystems.
The survey of 300 senior IT professionals revealed that SOA is
becoming a popular method for tackling systems integration.
SOA is a means of coupling standardised software services for
use by multiple applications in order to cut duplication, reduce
maintenance costs and improve integration.
Of the firms engaged in SOA projects, 52% were already using the
technology, 21% planned to go live within the next year, and 27%
planned to implement it within two years.
Nearly 50% of the organisations in the survey said the main
business benefit of better IT integration was improved
competitiveness.
