The British Council is replacing a large variety of IT
systems with a SAP-based system to simplify and improve its
business processes.
The system is expected to save money for the council, the UK's
international organisation for educational and cultural relations,
by reducing the number of different software licences needed to
support its functions, and the number of staff needed to run
back-office systems.
The £27m IT roll-out will cover systems across 110 countries.
Sites in the UK, India and other locations have already gone live
with the new SAP system, and the whole project is expected to be
finished by spring 2009.
The SAP system will cover over 200 locations across 110
different countries. Areas covered include financial management,
and teaching programmes that make it easier for teachers and
students to access courses.
