Royal Opera House sets the scene with virtual reality system

Tuesday 13 June 2006 09:40

The Royal Opera House in London has installed a virtual reality system to enable the production team to design sets and lighting more quickly. The system, installed by Nvidia, lets designers do in hours what previously took a stage crew weeks.

In preparation for the installation the Royal Opera House’s IT team spent two years producing a highly accurate model of the auditorium that would enable the virtual stage to be viewed from the perspective of any seat in the house. This allows sets to be evaluated before they are built.
