Thursday 08 June 2006 04:07

EMC has acquired nLayers to offer its customers an improved way to manage their networked assets and applications.

nLayers sells an appliance which automatically identifies, maps and models the relationships and interdependencies between applications, servers and devices.

EMC said it was buying nLayer to help it tackle a growing market in application discovery systems.

EMC had been working with nLayers as an OEM partner, with nLayer providing technology for the EMC Smarts Application Discovery Manager software.

NLayers has two main products. NLayers InSight discovers and maps relationships between applications and the technology infrastructure. It can then provide businesses with a model of their IT environment .

NLayers InSight Managed Services, working in conjunction with NLayers InSight, is an application infrastructure discovery and optimisation service.

Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed by EMC.
