The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) says 12 public
sector organisations have used an electronic auction to achieve 41%
savings on IT hardware.
OGC, which is the Treasury’s purchasing agency, says it saved
the public sector organisation £2.7m on computer hardware through
its latest e-auction.
The total starting price of the items discounted was £6.5m, but
the seven-hour auction saw the cost reduced to £3.8m.
The public sector e-auction, one of a series, used
"transformational" bidding, which saw suppliers' prices and
qualitative evaluations taken into account.
Twelve organisations, including the Countess of Chester
Hospitals Foundation Trust and the Procurement Agency for Essex,
took part in the auction. Around 400 bids were received from seven
suppliers during the auction.
The benefits of an e-auction include the involvement of small
suppliers and reduced tendering costs for sellers and buyers, the
OGC said.
