IBM and RIM are tightening integration between Big
Blue’s Lotus Domino e-mail server and RIM’s Blackberry mobile
push-e-mail system.
IBM said its developers were now busy producing new tools to
support the Blackberry system.
The aim is to make it much easier for Lotus Notes e-mail users
to get their messages to their mobile devices using the Domino
server and Blackberry software.
Domino 7 will now fully support Blackberry mobile devices. RIM
is offering Domino-using companies a free ten-user version of
Blackberry Enterprise Server version 4.1 to support their mobile
employees, as part of the new partnership.
The Blackberry system is the market leader in automatic push
e-mail systems, although Microsoft is now making a serious
challenge in the market to support its Exchange e-mail server
platform.
