Novell is to launch an open source identity management
product, and is preparing to release SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop
10 in a bid to tempt more enterprise customers into the open source
fold.
Novell will unveil the Bandit open source identity management
project later this month, and will update its SuSE Linux Enterprise
Desktop 10 suite in July.
There will also be enhancements to Novell’s Open Enterprise
Linux Server operating system in the coming months.
Open Enterprise Server will use Xen virtualisation software to
enable customers to run Linux and the NetWare network operating
system on the same machine.
The Bandit project, which will involve a number of other
developers and suppliers, will aim to create a set of open source
components for standards-based identity services.
The Bandit project will cover network sign-on, policy-based
administration and directory-related services.
SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 will have improved graphics
capabilities, advanced search software and better device
support.
