Research from
IT security firm Sophos reveals that Trojans and spyware are edging
out viruses as chief threats to business.
"While email worms occupy the top spots, it's clear that Trojan
horses represent by far the most prominent threat to IT security,"
says Carole Theriault, senior security consultant at Sophos.
Two years on, Netsky still tops the bad boys, accounting for about
one in five of all viruses, despite the fact that fixes are readily
available.
At least 28% of the threats in April allowed an unauthorised third
party to gain access to computers remotely, suggesting that hackers
are now more focused on financial or data theft than simply causing
mayhem.
