Ofcom has raised almost £4m from an auction of GSM
spectrum licences to service providers.
The sealed bids included one of over £1.5m from Colt Telecom for
a licence. Other companies paid as little as £50,000 for the same
spectrum.
All companies had the same bidding information available to them
before they submitted their sealed bids to Ofcom.
The GSM spectrum sold will allow providers to sell private
GSM-based networks to companies and organisations.
The 12 licences awarded are in the 1781.7MHz to 1785MHz and
1876.7MHz to 1880MHz bands.
The winners (and their bids) were:
- Colt (just over £1.5m)
