systems give network administrators visibility into storage area
networks that reside on Fibre Channel links.
Softgrid 4.0 smooths virtual application
path
Softricity, a supplier of on-demand application virtualisation
technology, has introduced software designed to make virtual
applications easier to create, deploy, manage and use. Softgrid 4.0
virtualises Windows applications and makes them available to
computers worldwide within minutes, the company said. Version 4.0
comes with remote help to reduce application management costs.
Dual-core Xeons power HP workstations
Hewlett-Packard has introduced a range of Intel-based
workstations with dual-core Xeon chips. The desk-side HP xw6400 and
xw8400 workstations offer easy expansion, said HP. The HP Compaq
nw8440 and nw9440 are mobile workstations aimed at video editors,
engineers, designers and animators.
IBM launches servers for virtualisation
IBM has launched servers and software designed for
virtualisation technology. The three System x scaleable servers,
which feature IBM’s Enterprise X-Architecture technology, are
designed to deliver capabilities for server consolidation and
scalable database, ERP and CRM applications.
Microsoft plans tools to aid system
management
Microsoft is to introduce a series of systems management
products over the next 18 months. The System Centre products are
designed to help IT professionals manage their infrastructure. They
will be built around the Microsoft Operations Framework, which is
based on the ITIL methodology.
