The government is to test secure data sharing systems at
hospitals in the North East.
The pilot will run until the end of next month at the County
Durham and Darlington Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, with the
technology controlling who has access to specific systems.
The system will help the hospitals involved to control the
sharing of data across departments and with partners, including
suppliers.
The trust will use Security Enhanced Linux and IBM’s main web
services platform WebSphere to help prevent security breaches, as
well as technology from Tresys and e-procurement firm Belmin
Group.
The online system will be built around WebSphere, which also
supports the development of service-oriented architectures (SOAs),
designed to allow organisations to develop applications quickly in
response to the changing needs of the organisation.
