Tape back-up and recovery systems provider Exabyte has
introduced a new tape library, aimed at small- to medium-sized
businesses (SMBs).
The Magnum 224 LTO is, says Exabyte, the first SMB/departmental
entry-level LTO tape library. LTO is a popular, industry-leading
tape format.
To date, says Exabyte, LTO libraries have been out of reach for
many businesses, due to the high price of automation. Yet
traditional solutions deployed by SMBs often fail to keep pace with
data growth, posing costly challenges for customers over time and
as a result, argues the company, SMB customers have been faced with
a dilemma of buying enough capacity to meet their current needs
without scalability for the future, or overspending on large tape
libraries that are overkill for their current requirements.
The Magnum 224 delivers expandable capacity that will enable
SMBs to create custom configurations by expanding the number of
tape cartridges and tape drives to meet their changing storage
requirements.
The tape library is available in two drive configurations: a
single LTO-2 half-height drive and empty bay for a second LTO-2
drive; or a single LTO-3 drive. Key features include scalability
that starts at 4.8Tbytes capacity, with speeds of 172Gbytes per
hour; expandable to 19.2Tbytes capacity and 576Gbytes per hour.
The product is expected to retail at about £2,600.
