The UK is number five for broadband use among countries
who are members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and
Development (OECD).
The OECD, which has 30 country members, said the UK has 9.5
million broadband users. The UK is behind Germany, with 10.7
million users, and Korea, with 12.2 million users. The top five is
led by the US with 49.4 million users, and Japan, with 22.5
million users.
When it comes to broadband penetration as a percentage of the
population, the list is headed by Iceland, South Korea, the
Netherlands, Denmark, and Switzerland.
Iceland has over 78,000 broadband subscribers, with a 26.7%
penetration rate. South Korea has 12.2 million subscribers,
representing 25.4% penetration.
The UK is ranked 12th with 15.9%, just behind the US on 16.8%.
Japan and South Korea are the two leading countries when it came to
users with ultra-fast fibre-to-the-home connections.
Most broadband users currently rely on copper wire connections
to get a connection, which don’t offer such high speeds.
