A number of government departments and companies have
joined forces to help tackle cyber crime in business and
government.
The Department for Trade and Industry (DTI), the Home Office and
the Ministry of Defence (MOD) are among the founder members of the
Cyber Security Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN).
The DTI has helped set up the network with a £1.8m investment.
Around £10m has also been made available for the KTN to conduct
research, development and technical projects.
The KTN will provide a national platform for tackling cyber
crime by drawing on security expertise from across industry,
academia and government.
The initiative will be managed by defence technology company
Qinetiq, and will deal with issues including cyber crime, identity
management and biometrics.
BT, along with other leading technology companies, are involved
in the project. The KTN will be formally launched next month and
will seek to attract other participating supporters.
