South Wales Police (SWP) has signed a
multi-million-pound contract with Atos Origin to deliver a new
information management system to help it deal with crimes more
efficiently.
The deal sees the consolidation of existing operational policing
systems into a single record management system called Niche
RMS.
SWP said that by improving the quality and accuracy of
information stored, as well as eliminating the need to duplicate
data entry, the new system will support intelligence-led
policing.
Under the contract, Atos Origin, using data integration software
from business intelligence software provider SAS, will manage the
data cleansing, back record conversion, and the transfer of
accurate and non-duplicated information from the existing
operational systems to the new integrated system.
Superintendent Richard Lewis of SWP, who is responsible for the
project, said, “We selected Atos Origin because it could supply a
low risk and seamless solution, which combined skilled consultants
with police systems experience.”
During the transition Atos Origin will ensure that all
information held on the existing systems remains available for
operational and business intelligence purposes.
Atos Origin will also review the business intelligence reporting
model and make recommendations on the future structure.
This will include the Cross Regional Information Sharing
Platform, part of the government's IMPACT programme to share police
intelligence, as well as business intelligence reporting based on a
central data warehouse.
