IBM woos Exchange e-mail users

Tuesday 04 April 2006 07:36

IBM is trying to tempt IT departments to transfer from Microsoft Exchange to Lotus Domino and Notes systems running on Linux.

The firm is offering resellers up to £11,500 for converting e-mail customers through an £11-per-licensed-seat scheme. The scheme is part of a new programme called "Migrate to the Penguin".

As part of the effort, IBM is also offering a service that will let users have their Domino servers hosted on a trial basis, rather than have the Domino and Notes software installed on company servers.

Microsoft and IBM lead the market in providing e-mail and desktop productivity suites. Earlier this year, Microsoft released a set of software tools designed to allow Domino and Notes users to more easily transfer their data to an Exchange platform.
