Storage giants EMC and IBM took the honours in a survey
by IDC investigating the enterprise storage arena.
The survey confirms EMC as the leading provider of storage
software for the sixth consecutive year, and IBM is identified as
achieving the fastest growth among the leading storage software
suppliers in the fourth quarter of 2005.
IDC also found EMC to be the number one firm for total revenue
in storage software for the 12th consecutive quarter. For both the
full year and the fourth quarter, EMC led the storage replication
market with more than twice the revenue share of the next closest
provider; and the storage resource management market with more than
four times the revenue share of the next closest provider. In the
back-up and archive segment, EMC continued to grow revenue share
and outpace the total market.
Growing at 33%, IBM claims to be the only one of the top three
suppliers to increase its revenue share, resulting in a
year-on-year market share increase of nearly 2%. According to the
report, IBM showed the top growth rate in the back-up and archive
functional markets, together with the largest share points increase
for that segment among all the suppliers measured in the survey.
IDC also reported that IBM showed the highest growth rate for
storage replication and storage resource management.
