According to
the 2006 European Information Technology Observatory report,
overall European growth is expected to slow down to 3.2% this year,
down from 3.6% last year. But the UK flouts the downward trend and
is expected to grow 4.2% this year.
Software and IT services are accelerating this growth but it is
held in check by more modest growth levels in IT hardware and
telecoms.
Charles Ward, chief operations officer at IT trade body Intellect,
says the growth is encouraging, “but masks increasing turbulence in
the market with some sectors such as security, mobile applications,
content management and storage experiencing huge growth.”
The UK compares well against the US, which is growing just 3.9%
and Japan, trailing with 1.1% growth.
