Apple is to open a call centre in Bangalore that will
employ up to 3,000 by the end of next year.
The news has been reported in India, although Apple has not
confirmed the final number to be employed in its first Indian call
centre.
The company insists that the Indian facility will not affect
jobs at its main US call centres and elsewhere, which it says are
still expanding.
It has been reported that the new call centre will initially
employ around 1,500, before the figure is gradually increased to
3,000.
The centre will offer customer service to Apple’s full product
line, including Mac computers and iPod music players.
Last year, Dell opened its third customer call centre in India.
The likes of Microsoft, SAP and Alcatel have all recently announced
product development sites in India, and IBM is in the process of
hiring an extra 14,000 Indian workers.
