Of the roughly 650 million corporate email inboxes
worldwide, Datamonitor estimates 35-40% could be mobilised,
according to industry analyst Datamonitor.
By 2009, personal information management (PIM) software—which
organises often-used information such as names, addresses,
appointments and so on—could surpass £345m.
Mobile operators are falling over themselves to create push email
technology. Nokia, Vodafone and RIM were joined this week with a
launch by US company Funambol, claiming the first open source
solution.
‘Mobile email is on the verge of mass market adoption, and the
number of mobilised email accounts will explode over the next three
years,’ says Datamonitor technology analyst Alaa Owaineh.
`As differentiation becomes more difficult, pricing and
partnerships will become key factors in achieving growth.’
A July Datamonitor report found that 50% of European companies
already deploy mobile email products.
