XenSource is pressing ahead with its programme to offer
a commercial IT virtualisation infrastructure
solution.
The US company aims to deliver the benefits of Open Source Xen
to enterprise data centres via its XenOptimizer product
Unveiled at the end of 2005 with mass shipments expected soon,
XenOptimizer is claimed by its authors as the best-in-class
technology for server virtualisation, and with new functionality to
provide best-in-class virtualisation across a data centre.
The company sees opportunity arising from what it believes is
the explosive growth of multi-tier enterprise applications in
recent years that has significantly increased the number of servers
in the enterprise data centre, resulting in increased capital
expenditures, complexity, and personnel management costs.
XenOptimizer is designed to enable Linux-based data centre
environments to reduce these costs by increasing server utilisation
and enabling server consolidation.
"Virtualisation is fast emerging as one of the most effective
ways to combat server sprawl," comments Nick Gault, president and
CEO of XenSource. "XenOptimizer enables enterprises to more easily
and fully realise the power of [virtualisation], and…increase
server utilisation, enable server consolidation, and reduce wasted
capital costs and personnel management expenses throughout their
data centre."
