The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) has
closed down the Local e-Government Standards Body (LeGSB), leaving
councils with no official body to guide them through on-line
development.
The body announced its disbandment yesterday, saying the ODPM
had rejected its business case, meaning the body was now
effectively frozen.
The LeGSB was developed under the ODPM's National Projects for
local e-government programme. The ODPM is now looking for local
authorities and other organisations to take ownership of individual
projects.
The ODPM said it refused to continue backing the LeGSB because
further grants were unavailable and projected subscriptions to the
organisation were uncertain.
The ODPM also said the Society of IT Management (Socitm), a
supporter of the body, was not committed to making up any shortfall
in funds.
The LeGSB team has been disbanded and the body’s website will
close at the end of March.
