According to an employment study by Telewest Business,
British workers are increasingly unwilling to disrupt their home
lives and relocate for work.
The study found that people in the North and Scotland would rather
stay close to their roots than follow perceived higher earning
potential in the south.
“These findings send a clear signal to employers – people now
believe that culture and attitude in the workplace are as important
as salary,” says Stephen Beynon, managing director of Telewest
Business.
Almost three-quarters of the 1,000 employees surveyed cited
commuting distance as a strong influence on their decisions.
“While email, mobile phones and the internet began this shift, new
communications services have the ability to completely change
working patterns,” says Beynon.
