Hewlett-Packard is planning to introduce three new
services for retailers this week to help them design, deploy and
manage their IT infrastructure.
HP Retail Agility Services will provide point-of-sale (POS)
systems with maintenance, and the HP Retail Webcasting Platform
will enable retailers to deliver e-learning, corporate
communications and product information across the enterprise. This
second offering can be hosted or managed internally.
In addition, for pharmacies, pharmaceutical manufacturers and
healthcare companies looking to adopt radio frequency
identification (RFID) technology, HP is partnering with Cyclone
Commerce to deliver a product to closely track and authenticate
drugs as they travel from the manufacturer to the customer.
HP intends integrating Cyclone Commerce software on HP ProLiant
and HP Integrity server platforms at retail pharmacies, to help
deliver real-time information and visibility of pharmaceuticals in
transit.
Viagra manufacturer Pfizer recently introduced an RFID-based
tracking system for pharmacies to adopt, but is using technology
from different suppliers.
