Red Hat will include the Mono programming framework in
the next edition of its Fedora open-source programming
platform.
Mono has already gained the support of Novell and Microsoft, and
Red Hat’s decision to support Mono in Fedora is designed to let
Fedora users take full advantage of the platform without having to
deploy additional tools.
Mono allows programs written in Microsoft's C# language, for
instance, to run on Linux platforms, such as the Gnome desktop. Red
Hat says Mono will now be included in Rawhide, the half-way house
towards the forthcoming Fedora Core 5.
Red Hat’s move will let Fedora users easily access key
Mono-based applications in areas such as photo management and
desktop search.
The company has no plans to extend Mono support to Red Hat
Enterprise Linux platform.
