Security software company Symantec is targeting the
instant messaging security market by acquiring leading player
IMlogic.
IMlogic is among a small number of companies at the forefront of
security in the growing instant messaging security market, and
often alerts the market to new security threats affecting instant
messaging systems.
With companies increasingly using instant messaging as a
business tool, including the use of consumer-based systems from the
likes of Yahoo, MSN, Google and AOL, the acquisition seems logical
if Symantec wants to offer a full enterprise security package.
The price of the acquisition has not been revealed. Symantec
expects the deal to be completed in the coming weeks.
IMlogic sells the IM Manager software, which is designed to
protect both public and corporate IM networks.
IMlogic reported this week that IM networks saw an 825% rise in
security attacks last month, when compared to the same period the
previous year.
Enterprise hosted e-mail security company MessageLabs acquired
IM company OmniPod last November.
