Police chiefs get new information management head

Ailsa Beaton has been brought in by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) to revamp its information management strategy.

Beaton, director of information at the Metropolitan Police Service, has been elected head of ACPO’s Information Management Business Area (IMBA).

Beaton is now responsible for developing a national policing information strategy. Her brief will cover general communications, the Police National Computer, information security, data protection, freedom of information, and criminal justice IT.

Beaton has been with the Metropolitan Police Service for five years and represents ACPO in the Home Office’s Science and Technology Strategy Group.

She also sits on the Police Information Technology Organisation (PITO) board. Beaton has replaced Tom Lloyd as head of IMBA.
