The Highways Agency has signed a deal with network services
provider Telindus to set up and support an IP switched network CCTV
system.
It will link more than 14,000 message signs, 4,000 CCTV cameras
and traffic monitoring systems to the agency's national network of
traffic control centres.
The system will be used primarily for monitoring road safety,
but will also give drivers access to real-time travel information
to help them plan their journeys. The contract is part of the
Highways Agency's National Roads Telecommunications
Servicesproject.
