Te National Hi-Tech Crime Unit is to launch the UK’s
first nationwide public awareness campaign to warn of the dangers
of internet crime.
The growth in internet crime is causing increasing concern. A
recent study by fraud prevention firm eFunds Payment Solutions
revealed that more than half the UK public feared becoming a victim
of online crime.
The Get Safe Online campaign is due to be launched on 27 October
by the multi-agency unit, which is part of the National Crime
Squad.
Full details have not been released ahead of the launch, but the
campaign will be aiming its internet security awareness message at
consumers and small businesses.
Get Safe Online is a joint initiative between the government,
the NHTCU and private sector sponsors including major IT and
internet industry names such as BT, Dell, eBay, HSBC, Lloyds TSB,
MessageLabs, Microsoft, SecureTrading and Yell.com.
