Juniper Networks has reported a 72% increase in net
profits for the third quarter, reflecting a strong performance in
its main router business.
One of Cisco Systems’ main router competitors, Juniper saw net
profits jump to $84.1m (£50m) from $48.8m in the same quarter last
year.
Sales rose from $375m to $546m – and news of the performance saw
Juniper’s share value increase by more than 3%.
The figures come after Juniper had reported tough trading for
its security business earlier this year, but its performance in the
router business ensured the overall performance for the third
quarter was ahead of analyst expectations.
Juniper is now competing with Cisco on another front, with the
recent acquisitions of companies specialising in the web and
network acceleration markets. Cisco has made its own acquisitions
in the same markets.
