Citrix revealed its virtualisation strategy at the
iForum user conference in Las Vegas in mid-October, with the
announcement of Project Constellation.
The project centres on next-generation application
virtualisation technologies designed for Microsoft's forthcoming
64-bit Windows Vista Server operating system.
Citrix president and chief executive Mark Templeton said the
technologies will lead to a broader set of Citrix products that
will allow users to deliver, manage and support on-demand
applications and IT services.
"Constellation represents our vision of the future of
application virtualisation," said Templeton. "Constellation
comprises innovative technologies that have been under development
for the past two years and will result in many new application
virtualisation products, features and options."
Constellation technologies can monitor the health of an IT
system to improve its resilience, isolate problems and boost fault
tolerance, he said. They include autonomic load management to make
the system more stable.
Constellation has also been designed to provide better
"end-to-end" visibility and reporting of the whole system, to
monitor and manage service level agreements. This includes
monitoring the end-user experience.
Citrix has also been working on graphics acceleration
technology.
