Household goods manufacturer Reckitt Benckiser, which
makes cleaning products such as Dettol, Harpic and Finish, has
claimed significant efficiencies by simplifying its IT
infrastructure.
The company implemented Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise
Edition with Microsoft Active Directory, to simplify its server
infrastructure.
"The reduction of domains from 96 to three, together with the
speed of the deployment in just a few months, have made a major
contribution to greater efficiency throughout our business," said
Tony Gallagher, senior vice-president for information services at
Reckitt Benckiser.
The company, which manufactures in 60 countries, selling into
180, also consolidated its servers down from 720 to 627, and
introduced central network management.
Before the IT overhaul, when system problems occurred, it was
difficult to pinpoint the source, which in turn slowed down
business operations, the company said.
Reckitt Benckiser was using Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise
Edition, with 9,000 desktop end-users spread throughout the domains
with each one being managed with its own unique set of common rules
and procedures.
