Household goods maker Reckitt Benckiser has claimed
significant efficiencies from simplifying its IT
infrastructure.
The company, whose brands include Dettol, Vanish, Harpic and
Finish, implemented Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise
Edition with Microsoft Active Directory to simplify its server
infrastructure.
“The reduction of domains from 96 to three together with the
speed of the deployment in just a few months have made a major
contribution to greater efficiency throughout our business,” said
Tony Gallagher, senior vice-president for information services at
Reckitt Benckiser.
The company, which manufactures in 60 countries and sells into
180, also consolidated its servers, reducing the number from 720 to
627, and introduced central network management.
Before the IT overhaul, it had been difficult to pinpoint the
source of system problems, which in turn slowed down business
operations, said the company.
The company was using Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition,
and had 9,000 desktop users spread throughout 96 domains, with each
domain managed with its own unique set of common rules and
procedures.
