Dell has posted profits of $1.02bn (£56m) for the second
quarter, up 28% on the same period last year.
The computer manufacturer boasted its highest-ever revenues from
industry-record shipments of 9.1m computer systems, including 2.7m
mobility products.
The results for the three months to 29 July were also boosted by
revenues of more than $2bn (£1.1bn) from software and peripheral
products, such as printers and displays. The company recorded a
notably strong performance outside the US, accounting for 39% of
its total revenues – up 24% year on year.
Total revenue for the quarter was $13.4bn (£7.3bn), 15% higher
than the same quarter last year.
Dell chief executive Kevin Rollins said, “Our teams performed
well in a dynamic market. Our second quarter growth was
characterised by share increases in every region. While average
selling prices were down more than we would have liked, we focused
on balanced profitability and, in the process, delivered to our
guidance for earnings per share.”
