Awards to recognise women's IT success

An awards scheme to recognise the achievements of women working with IT has been launched by Research In Motion, the company behind the Blackberry personal digital assistant.

The Blackberry Women and Technology Awards, run in conjunction with professional women's networking group Aurora, will reward women who are using technology to help advance their company or career.

Awards will fall into eight categories, recognising the contribution of women in the corporate, public, SME and academic sectors. IT firms will be able to compete for an award that will go to the IT company most committed to advancing female talent. 

Charmaine Eggberry, vice-president at Research In Motion, said, "The awards have been created to identify women and organisations that are using technology in an innovative and creative manner.

"We are looking for winners from all business sectors, whether they are a small start-up company using technology with an entrepreneurial flair or a government organisation that has streamlined its communications."

The deadline for entries is 31 August.
