Laser system could help authenticate
passports
Nanotechnology researchers at Imperial College London have
developed a laser authentication system that could help to ensure
the authenticity of passports, ID cards and other documents such as
birth certificates. It can read the unique "fingerprint" inherent
in certain manufactured items by mapping microscopic variations
across the surface of a range of materials, including paper,
plastic, metal and ceramics. Ingenia Technology will market the
Laser Surface Authentication system.
