Thirty members of the government’s Council of Chief
Information Officers (CIO Council) have joined National Computing
Centre body CIO Connect to share IT strategies with the private
sector.
The CIO Council is chaired by Ian Watmore, head of the Cabinet
Office’s e-government unit, and consists of senior IT managers from
across Whitehall and the wider public sector.
Watmore said, “Being able to plug into CIO Connect's network of
senior IT professionals offers significant benefit to the CIO
Council. There is great value in sharing knowledge and experiences
with peers to help spread best practice and professionalism
throughout public sector IT.”
Martin Bellamy, CIO of the Pension Service, said, “Many public
sector organisations are currently undertaking change programmes to
enhance both customer service and efficiency.
“Most of these initiatives are enabled by new IT, often on a
scale comparable to the largest private sector projects. CIO
Connect provides a valuable opportunity to share insights and
experience with colleagues from the private sector."
